I know some of us (including myself) have our side windows tinted.
However, we hope by having a light tint, that we can get away with it.

Unfortunately, my friend was not that lucky. Then again, if you have your windows THIS dark....I guess he was bound to get caught by the cops. hehe

Image

***STEP ONE***
Gather the following items:
1.) Razor Blade
2.) Garbage bags (ideally black)
3.) Ammonia (make sure it's 100%)
4.) Clean towels

5.) Screw driver
6.) Socket wrench
7.) Heat Gun (or Hairdryer)

Image
100% Ammonia bought at Walgreens for $2.
Trust me...it is NOT Lemon Fresh. Ammonia will smell like crap even if the bottle says Victoria Secret Strawberry Fresh.

***STEP TWO***
Start by removing the door panel.
Image
Image

The picture above is from a GSR.
To remove the door panel off a Prelude, please following the instructions below.

a.) Remove the screw that is hidden behind the cap located at the door handle.
b.) Pull the door handle and tweeter unit out and disconnect all the wires.
c.) Unhook the door handle metal rod with a flat head screw driver
d.) Pull off the speaker cover. (There are hooks located closest to the door's edge. The other end are held by snaps.)
e.) Once the speaker cover is off, remove the THREE screws located around the speaker.
f.) Remove the screw that is hidden under the cap located inside the handle used for closing the door.
g.) Remove the small plastic cap located at the upper corner near the door's hinge.
h.) Lastly, grab the door panel from below and carefully pry the door loose.
i.) Finish off by pulling up to unhook it from the window's edge and disconnect any remaining wires.

***STEP THREE***
Remove the window from the car.

Image

a.) Roll the window about 95% down.
b.) Remove the plastic weather covering by using a heat gun to loosen up the glue. Once the area is warm, pull the covering to reveal the bolt as shown in the picture above.
c.) Remove the bolts, BUT be careful not to drop the window!!!
d.) Carefully lift the window upwards. When the window is half way up, tilt the back of the window up and pull it out of the rear tracks.
e.) Continue to carefully pull the window up until it is off the car.
f.) Lay the windows on some soft towels, as shown below.

Image

***STEP FOUR***
Place the glass windows into some black garbage bags.
Image

**STEP FIVE***
Pour LOTS of Ammonia into the bags on top of the tint.
Image

Spread the Ammonia around so the entire surface is covered.
Image

Pour MORE Ammonia into the bags. Do you still believe it's Lemon Fresh?

:)
Image

Leave the windows inside the garbage bags in the WARM SUN for an Hour.
(This is why black garbage bags are the best)The heat will make the Ammonia react better with the tint's glue.
The longer the Ammonia is left on the tint, the better since it will have time to soak through the tint and eat through the glue.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the Ammonia does not evaporate!!!!

***STEP SIX***
After an hour in the sun soaking in Ammonia, it's time to remove the tint.

Using a razor blade, carefully scrap at the edge lifting the tint from the window. (Be careful not to scratch the window)
Image

Once the edge is lifted, grab the tint and carefully pull it off the from the window.
The goal is to pull the tint off with the glue.
Image

***STEP SEVEN***
To remove any remaining glue, I used Goof Off. It's strong, but safe for many surfaces such as glass.
Image

Pour some Goof Off to cover the window's surface.
Spread it around and wait for a few seconds. When the surface is just about to dry, use a cotton towel and wipe the surface clean.
Image

***DONE***
Once the entire window is cleaned off, put it back on the door.
Then chase down a cop to have the fix-it-ticket signed off.

Wait a couple of days and tint the window again!!! :D
